If you want see and type Chinese characters on your computer, first you have to install it on your computer. Here is manual how to install chinese characters on your computer (for Windows XP).

 

Insert Windows XP installation disc in computer and walk through menues as follows:

Click on Start
-> Control Panel
-> Regional and Language Options
-> Languages
-> mark Install files for East Asian languages (that will be additional 230 MB, but maybe this was already installed during initial installation of windows XP, depending on which options had chosen during initial installation of Windows XP)
-> OK
-> RESTART

 

After restart:

Click on Start
-> Control Panel
-> Regional and Language Options
-> Languages
-> Details
-> Add
-> on "Input language" choose Chinese (PRC) mark "Keyboard layout / IME" and choose Chinese simplified - Microsoft pinyin IME 3.0
-> OK
-> OK

 

And that's it.
