About freedom
- To laugh is to risk appearing a fool.
- To weep is to risk appearing sentimental.
- To reach out for another is to risk vulnerability.
- To expose your feelings is to risk rejection.
- To place your dreams before the crowd is to risk ridicule.
- To love is to risk not being loved in return.
- To go forward in the face of overwhelming odds is to risk failure.
- But risks must be taken because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing.
- The person who risks nothing does nothing, has nothing, is nothing.
- He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he cannot learn, feel, change, grow or love.
- Chained by his certitudes, he is a slave. He has forfeited his freedom.
- Only the person who takes risks is free.

Lose like a winner
When I lose (and believe me, it still happens from time to time), I try to hold onto that bitter taste that's left in my mouth so I can conjure it up every time I need to win. I think back to how I felt after losing and use that feeling to stay driven. There are four major things to keep in mind when you lose:
- Don't make excuses - Only punks and girly-men blame others for their shortcomings. If you care about your dignity, never pass the buck.
- Never apologize - The only person that you have any obligation to when you lose is yourself -- that's it.
- Don't sulk - This is what pansies do. They lock themselves in a closet and cry like little girls. It's counterproductive and it's pathetic. Stand up tall and make a vow to yourself that you'll be better next time.
- Winners do't quit - Some of the most successful athletes in the world were once cut from their high school teams. What does this tell you? I don't think I have to spell this one out. Remember: The only thing that losers have mastered is the art of quitting.
